5 Outdoor Kid Craft Ideas

Kids have some of the most vivid and wild imaginations of anyone. One of the best ways you can encourage your kids to keep an active mind, and empower them as people, is by giving them a starting point for making, doing, and thinking—and then let them go at it. The next time you hear the words “I’m bored,” what your kid is really asking for is permission to be inventive. Here are five outdoor activities to get your kids started.

1) Make A Boat.  Tell your kid to make a jug boat. Give them a milk jug and help them with cutting if they need it. The goal is to create a boat that floats.

2) Make an ant farm!  Have your kids ever had an ant farm? Task them with making one of their own!

step3_buildforts

3) The Kix fort building kit.  Do your kids love building forts? Keep a few supplies on hand—like a blanket, a large stick, and some rocks, for building a quick and easy outdoor fort.

4) Make a kite.  Here’s a good challenge for a weekend: Have your kids figure out how to make their own kite.

step5_makeasprinkler

5) Make a sprinkler.  When it’s hot outside, challenge your kids to make sprinklers! Provide a 2-liter bottle, tell them to punch holes, and ask them to figure out how to make it work.
