Cookie Cutter Stamped Apron

Kids love to be in the kitchen from an early age. Moms don’t like the stains that get on their clothes though, so why not make a fun apron that is easy to do and reflects a bit of their personality? Not only is this apron craft a cute DIY holiday gift, it also makes a great activity for grandparents to do with their grandchildren.

To make this apron you will need:

1 child sized apron
Fabric paint (or craft paint and fabric medium)
Plastic cookie cutters
Paintbrushes

Not only can kids use this in the kitchen, it makes a great crafting smock too. And, because we are using fabric paint, you’ll be able to throw it in the washer now and then to clean it up!

I recommend keeping a set of cookie cutters that are specifically for crafting that won’t actually be used for cooking. To prep the apron, wash and dry it but don’t use any type of fabric softener (fabric softener can cause problems with the fabric paint adhering).

Lay out the cookie cutters on your apron however you want your design to appear.

Working with one cookie cutter at a time, and leaving all except the one you are working with in place, dip a cookie cutter in the fabric paint.

Carefully place it onto the apron and press firmly so that all edges come in contact with the fabric.

For the vehicle cookie cutters I turned them upside down so I could use the wider borders. Paint the border using a paintbrush.

As with the other cookie cutters, carefully place it onto the apron and press firmly so that all edges come in contact with the fabric.

Continue down the apron until you have used all of your cookie cutters.

Finally, while the rest of the paint dries, fill in the letters with fabric paint using a paintbrush.

Be sure to follow the instructions on your fabric paint bottle. Most require that you allow the fabric to sit for 2-3 days before laundering. I used a brand called So-Soft, which is available at most craft stores and does not dry stiff like many fabric paints can.
