Kix Cereal Box Miniature Golf
Raining outside? Or snowing? Are you dreaming of summer and miniature golf? Well, bring some outside love inside with your box of Kix. You can get as creative as you like with this cereal box miniature golf. Find objects around the house, or in the toy bin, that might work as different obstacles. And, if you eat enough cereal, you can make an entire course!
Watch out for the water hazard!
Be sure to avoid the sand traps, too.
To make Kix Mini Golf, you will need:
Box of Kix (A 9 ½ inch x 13 inch box used here. Adjust sizes as necessary.)
Foam activity sheets, 12 x 18 inches (blue, brown, green and at least 2 pieces of another shade of green)
School glue
Scissors
Craft knife (for parents to use or oversee kid’s usage)
Pencil
4-inch skewer or toothpick
Red paper
Black marker
Pretzel sticks
Additional obstacles (optional)
Trace the box of Kix on a piece of green foam sheet. Cut out the rectangle and glue to the Kix box. Choose a spot for your hole near the corner. Use the craft knife to cut a hole ¾-inch in diameter through both the foam sheet and the cereal box. (Make sure an adult does this step.)
Use the other green craft sheets to cut out three strips: two strips the length of each side of the box and as tall as the box width plus an additional two or three inches, and one strip the length of the bottom of the box and as tall as the width plus an additional two or three inches. Cut the final strip the length of the top of the box and about three inches wide. So the strips shown for a 9 1/2 x 13-inch box are: Two strips 13 inches by 5 ½ inches, one strip 9 ½ inches by 5 ½ inches, and one strip 9 ½ inches by 3 inches.
Draw and cut out some bumps across the top to make bushes.
Glue the taller strips to the sides and bottom of the Kix box. For the last strip, glue to the top of the box as shown. This strip is shorter so you can access the inside of the box to remove the golf ball. The bushes will act as barriers to make sure your golf ball doesn’t roll off the edge, so make sure you don’t trim the hedges too low.
Cut out water hazards and sand traps as you like and glue to the green foam sheet. For an extra challenge, cut out doubles of each and stack the water hazards and sand traps two-sheets high. To make a flag, cut a diamond from the red paper and wrap around a skewer. Insert into the box. Mark the start line with a black marker.
Use Kix pieces as the golf balls and pretzel sticks at the butters, and play ball! Wait, that’s not right. How do you start a game of golf? Play Kix!
